Yesterday the full cast, Samantha Wright and I got together for the first time to rehearse the rehearsed reading for Scenic Reality. I made a short behind the scenes video while the rehearsal was in progress. (Photographs below)
Gender Neutral Playwriting
As my first one-act play, Scenic Reality, is getting its’ first performance next month, I thought I’d write a bit about something that was very important to me when writing the play; that is, making sure that the characters could be played by as many different kinds of people as possible. This naturally led to questions about gender, and how I could give people the option to change a characters gender without affecting the story or the text itself. I was a bit wary about not giving the characters any gender at all, as I felt that would make the characters too hard to picture on paper, and writing ‘he/she/they’ every time it came up in the script would be a nightmare to read. Scenic Reality Venue Announced
We are pleased to confirm the venue of Scenic Reality’s rehearsed reading. It will be at The Hope Theatre, Upper Street N1. The reading will be from 3pm to 4pm on 27th April and there will be time for feedback afterwards.
Tickets are still available and are free, so be sure to get on EventBrite if you would like to see the show.
Please note: the reading is no longer at the Hen & Chickens theatre as previously referred to. Any tickets already reserved are still valid.
