CONTENT WARNING: Transphobia, emotional trauma

Leanne, a young trans woman, finds a lost mobile phone in the bushes outside her home. While she talks to her brother Russell about how to return the phone, (and try to work out the phone’s passcode) she discovers that the owner is an influential figure who has publicly spoken out against trans people’s right to exist. Leanne has to decide if she will simply return the phone, or use the opportunity to get back at a person who has helped fuel transphobic bigotry and hatred towards trans people.

Written by J. B. Pichelski and directed by Atrix Cragnotti, Lost Phone is a short play, performed over Zoom, which tells a story about allyship in a time of danger and division for trans people around the world.

We’ll be hosting 4 shows in total, 2 will be exclusively for trans people and 2 will be for both trans people and cis allies. For a breakdown of the dates, see dates & times below.

The play will last approximately 15 minutes, and afterwards will feature a discussion on trans topics hosted by Marlowe Mitchell. Tickets are free to reserve on EventBrite. We’re asking all audience members to fill out an anonymous questionnaire before we send you to the ticket page, this will help us to inform the direction of the discussion portion of the event.

Note: A couple of the discussions will also be recorded for archival and private uses. We currently don’t know which shows they will be, but we will let you know beforehand if your show is going to be recorded and give advice on how you can contribute to the discussion while remaining anonymous if that is what you wish to do. (You won’t appear on the recording unless you take part in the discussion.)

Cast

Leanne: Faye Wheeler (She/her)
I am a transgender actress, currently represented by YOU Management. I trained at the Brit School of Performing Arts, BIMM (London) and most recently graduated from Mountview studying MA Musical Theatre.
My previous roles include: Mrs Beech in Goodnight Mister Tom (Southwark playhouse)
My roles whilst training include: Serge in Art, Secretary in Flora the Red Menace, Violet in 9 to 5 and Paulette in Legally Blonde. I am very much looking forward to the development of Lost Phone and working with a fantastic team.

Russell: Zachary Hing (They/them)
Hey! I’m Zachary, I’m an actor-dancer rep’d by The Queer House. I was born and raised in the U.K. but I’m from a Singaporean family! My credits include: ‘Living Newspaper: Edition 2’ (Royal Court), ‘Them!’ (National Theatre Scotland), ‘Pah-La’ (Royal Court), ‘Forgotten’ (Theatre Royal Plymouth/Arcola) and ‘Why Is The Sky Blue?’ (Southwark). I’m making my television debut in the upcoming series ‘Halo’ (Showtime/Amblin).

Director: Atrix Cragnotti (They/them)
My name is Atrix Cragnotti, I’m 24 years old and a New Yorker. I am a choreographer, dancer, actor and theatre maker. Facilitating or Directing shows is my passion. Devised works I have done in the past include adaptations of Shakespeare plays, movement pieces that explore bodies in abstract ways, Zoom and other virtual shows and more. The last piece I assistant directed was a devised theatre piece directed by the amazing Angela Clerkin and put up at the Ugly Duck. My most recent project is a film series that explores my own trans body, nudity, and the stigmas around these two things. I am working towards my Masters degree at Rose Bruford Collage and trying to stay sane with long walks and cooking!

I’m J. B. Pichelski and I’m a transgender playwright based in North London. My one-act play, Scenic Reality, was performed at The Hen and Chickens as part of the Camden Fringe 2019. My short play, Starfish, was also performed at The Lyric Hammersmith Studio Space and went on to further performances at the Courtyard Theatre.

Discussion Moderator: Marlowe Mitchell (He/they)
I’m in my final year studying Performance And Creative Enterprise at Guildhall School of Music and Drama. I create work on the nebulousness of gender throughout history and in narrative and I love movies about the intricate rituals of sports. 

How to Watch

Zoom

This show will be hosted on Zoom, a free video conferencing tool available for Windows, Mac and Linux systems. (Zoom is also available on iOS and Android but we reccomend watching the show on a computer) Zoom can be downloaded here!

You will receive a link to watch the show around 20 minutes before the time you selected when you reserved your ticket. This link will be emailed to the address that you specified when you bought your ticket. When it’s nearly time for the show to start, click the link and Zoom will take you to the lobby. We’ll open the lobby about 15 minutes before the show is due to begin. (If you haven’t downloaded Zoom when you click the link, you will be taken to a webpage where you can do so.) Once you’re in, we’ll be on hand to help you if you need any technical assistance. Other than that, sit back and enjoy the show.

There’s a few things you can do when you get into the show to make sure you have the best experience possible. We will also be on hand at the show itself to assist with this:

1. Make sure that you have your display set to gallery mode. You can check this by going to the button in the top right hand corner and making sure ‘Gallery View’ is selected.
2. Turn off non-video participants. If you can see large boxes with people’s names inside them, hover your mouse over one of these boxes and click the blue ellipses (three dots) icon that will appear in the top right corner of the box. You can then select ‘hide non-video participants’ from the dropdown list.

Discussion

We’re really looking forward to the discussion portion of our event, hosted by Marlowe Mitchell. Marlowe has asked that if you want to take part in the discussion, please bring along something to write a few notes with. (Paper/pencil, notepad app, etc.)

Recording

We’re going to record all shows for archive and personal use. You’ll only appear on camera if you have your webcam on during the show. If you don’t want to get caught on camera while coming in, remember to click the ‘join without video’ button when joining the room.

If you want to remain anonymous during the discussion portion of the show, you can do that by changing your display name in Zoom. To do that, right click on your name in the Zoom window and click ‘Rename…’ (This is also a good way to add your pronouns after your name.)
